Arilyn Mitchell is a young professional concert harpist based in the Southcoast area of Massachusetts. She recently graduated from Carnegie Mellon University, studying with Gretchen van Hoesen, and will begin her graduate studies at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY this fall. She has previously studied with Carl Swanson in Boston. Recent highlights of her academic career include being selected, alongside flutist Evan Curatolo, as one of the winners of the 2024 Pittsburgh Concert Society Major Artist Competition by audition in April 2024. She has participated in masterclasses with Cheryl Losey, Mariko Anraku, Heidi Bearcroft, Parker Ramsey, and Marisa Robles. Her solo premiere was in 2022, performing Debussy’s “Danse Sacrée et Profane” with the Fall River Symphony Orchestra.
For over a decade, she has worked in orchestras across the United States. In addition, Ms. Mitchell has toured internationally with Benjamin Zander and the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra multiple times. Through these various musical opportunities, she has performed in halls worldwide, including Symphony Hall (Boston), the Musikverein (Vienna), the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), and the Centro Cultural Kirschner (Buenos Aires). Recent highlights of her orchestral work include the premiere of a variety of student works with the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic and a performance of Szokolay’s Violin Concerto with the Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra.
